Holy darkness Batman

There's no longer even a pinch of daylight remaining as I walk across the street for my morning latte from Starbuck's. Of course I can't complain because my walk is only about 300 yards, compared to the 2 miles Donna is out doing with Buddy right now.

It's been a busy morning and we've got a busy afternoon ahead of us. Buddy decided to recharge the batteries a bit early in the afternoon.

My Buddy

I've pretty much spent the entire day with the little guy. We started with the bike ride. He went to Blimpie's with me to pick up lunch. Then we went to the dog park. Last but not least, a trip to Ola's for dinner - a wet chicken burrito.

A $25 chew toy

I stopped at a organic, all natural pet store yesterday and for chewers like Buddy, the guy recommended deer antlers for a chew toy, citing that even in the wild, animals will use deer antlers (that they shed) as 'chew toys.' They're not cheap but much better for your dog than nylon bones, beef bones or rope toys. They're loaded with calcium, they don't splinter and the marrow inside the bone makes it extremely attractive to a dog. Buddy absolutely loves it and if he keeps up his chewing, one chunk of antler should last about one or two weeks.

It used to be that Donna had to sit next to Buddy while he ate, mainly because he would just get so excited and 'woof' it down. As time has passed, he doesn't get so excited about his food but Donna continues to sit by him while he eats. She even keeps him calm until he burps twice - something he does like clockwork after every meal.

Friday night at the dog park

After watching another dog jump on top of the picnic table at the dog park, Buddy picked up on it pretty quickly. When he's really tired, he sits under it so I can't get to his ball - which means I can't throw it, which means he doesn't have to chase it. When he's just kind of tired, he sits on top of the table with his paw on top of the ball, as if to say, ok, maybe I'll let you throw it. Of course Buddy pays for all his toys, tennis balls included, with his own money, so I can understand why he's so possessive.

Buddy's first impromptu formal portrait

I snapped this the other night while Buddy was sitting on the sofa. The black blanket seemed to work well as a backdrop.

Patience is a virtue

90% of the time, an evening walk with Donna & Buddy is just the perfect way to conclude the daylight hours of any given day. Yes, Buddy has his days, which accounts for the missing 10%. I'll never understand though why dogs are so particular about where they poo! C'mon already! This spot seems to be one of Buddy's favorites for just that, but still he has to sniff around for just the right spot.

After cooling off from the exhausting afternoon of yard work, I got cleaned up and we headed to The Oaks mall, where we caught a 4pm showing of "My Idiot Brother," picked up some sweet treats at See's Candies and had dinner at Red Robin.

As exhausted as I was from the bike ride and the trip to the dog park, I managed to find the energy to press onward and complete ALL of the yard work. It must have taken at least five, if not ten minutes.

After our ride and a quick change of clothes, we hopped in the car and ran Buddy to the dog park, where he had a number of friends to play with. Of course we still managed to find time to play fetch - most of the people there couldn't believe how fast he can run.

We got our usual slow start to the day today. After a little bonding time with Donna, I ran him from one end of the house to the other at least 30 times, playing fetch with three different toys.

SPRUCING THINGS UP

We found some rugs we liked at Home Depot and Buddy, as you can see, likes them just as much as Donna and I do. I think he likes them because he doesn't slip and slide all over the place, like he does on the wood flooring.
