After a solo mtn bike ride this morning (Donna is still out of commission) it was time to get down to business. Stop #1 was the furniture store, where we ordered our sofa w/ chaise and a 46" wide chair, plus a coffee table. It'll be about 6 weeks before we see it, but we're very excited and live the fabric - the photo below is the fabric we went with, but not the same sofa.
Nothing substantial here... Nothing more than mutterings and ramblings and little snapshots from our everyday life.

DINNER, WITH A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN
We spent the bulk of the day working around the house, so getting out for dinner seemed like a great idea. The food was good, the scenery was great.

THE ROLLER-COASTER CONTINUES
Monday was going to be a complete day of relaxation. Then the morning alarm went off and I realized we had some papers to fill out for the escrow company. After filling those out and running to the post office, I returned home to a ringing phone and learned that our home appraised for $5,000 less than the price we agreed to, meaning we would have to come up with that extra $5,000 at closing, unless the buyer agreed to drop the price.

BEING A HERO
Maybe the word 'hero' is a bit much, but I did save a baby rabbit's life during our ride today. We were dropping down the mountain, heading home, when I slammed on the brakes because a rattle snake was making it's way across the trail.

BREAKING TRADITION
Typically Friday night is our chill night - head home from work, grab some take-out on the way, and watch a movie and relax. This week however, we haven't been able to get out for any sort of exercise all week, so we decided to get out for a hike after work.

AHHH, FRESH STRAWBERRIES
After a quick stop at Trader Joe's we noticed a strawberry truck not far away. Holy cow! I just got done digging into them and you can tell they came right out of the field this morning. Santa, who loves strawberry pie, would go bonkers over a pie made with these things.
FEELING A LITTLE OVERWHELMED
It's starting to seem as though buying our new home will be the easiest part of our move to Camarillo next month. So many furniture stores. So many sofas. So many dining room tables. End tables. Lamps. Window treatments. A zillion different kinds of carpets. Interior painters everywhere. What colors? Paint the whole place or just a few rooms.
I'm concluding that my two primary goals before moving into the new home are having it painted and installing new carpet in the master bedroom. After that, everything else can wait. Oh, and have the a/c installed either before or right after we move in. Oh, and we have to address the window treatment issue in the master bedroom since the only 'window' is a glass sliding door.
Ok, so there are four things that have to be done right away. Other than that, everything else can wait.
Of course I don't want to miss out on any great furniture sales over the memorial day weekend. We found a $3,500 sofa that we absolutely love, but it's absolutely not in our budget. Maybe it'll be in a mega sale on memorial day? 60% off?
THE SUPERBOWL OF THE FURNITURE WORLD
We hit a few stores on Sunday looking for living room and dining room furniture, during which time we were advised by a very friendly salesperson to wait for memorial day weekend - "It's kind of the SuperBowl weekend of the furniture world," he said. Sales apparently hit an all-time high over the holiday weekend so we'll probably keep the piggy bank intact and make our purchases then.

THE ENERGIZER BUNNY
Opposites certainly do attract - I felt like the Energizer bunny on the trail today and Donna had her typical 'hangover' from working so late the night before. We weren't exactly riding the same pace but we had a good time anyway. We're trying to soak up the last bit of Newbury Park singletrack before moving back to Camarillo - where the closest trail is much steeper and rockier, hence, much more fun!
ANOTHER GREAT SUNSET
Just a snapshot from my hike last night after work. I love clear, blue skies but clouds certainly make for a more dramatic sunset.

A SHINY NEW LENS
As much as I try to take care of my iPhone, I ended up with a scratched lens - most likely from something sharp in my pocket when I threw my phone in there. Turns out, you can get the entire back plate (including the camera lens cover) of the iPhone 4 replaced for only $32. An appointment is needed at the genius bar. The worst part of the experience was arriving 2 minutes late for my appointment and being told since I missed it, I might have to wait a while. I didn't, but still it irked me.
DOG SHOPPING
The only steps we've taken towards buying a home are getting financed and placing an offer, but Donna is already scouring the shelter websites for a dog.

ANOTHER SUNSET, ANOTHER RIDE
Just as we had hoped to do, we got out for a ride after work tonight. Admittedly it wasn't the best ride, but the scenery was amazing as always and we managed to make it home before having to turn on our lights - which was good, considering we didn't bring the lights tonight.
'LUNCH' TIME
We took a lunch break today but it wasn't long before the iPhones and iPads came out so we could look at house listings. Tonight we're hoping to go for a bike ride so we can just get out minds off the house hunt.

SUNNY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
Since we started today's ride so late, we decided to pack some sandwiches and almonds for lunch. Turns out, the beach isn't an all-bad spot for a picnic.

ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER TRAIL
Despite a slow start to the day, which started with a longer-than-expected conversation with a mortgage broker, we managed to get out on the trails again. Normally we take the cyclocross bikes on our ride to the beach but Donna wasn't in the mood the be beaten up by a fully-rigid, skinny-tire bike, so she took her mountain bike
