MY WIFE, THE SOON-TO-BE-PRO MTN BIKER, GETTIN' HER NAME OUT THERE

Well, 'pro' might be a stretch considering she didn't even get started with this racing thing until she was in her late 20's, but I'm super proud of her! Now she's talking about some 6 & 12 hour races she wants to get under her belt before she attempts 24-hours, solo!

I FELT LIKE I EARNED THIS, GIVEN TODAY'S HIKE

I've been hooked lately on Baskin Robins' min-chocolate-chip ice cream. The trend has become a big scoop in a waffle cone, but I decided to take the minimalist approach tonight, with a single scoop on a sugar cone. Notice how much ice cream Donna has left? That's because she started with THREE scoops. Believe that one and I'll tell you another one.

THE GREATEST SMILE IN THE WORLD

There's no other smile that lights up my day the way Donna's does. The loose, sketchy stuff was all behind us at this point, which is (I think) why she was smiling like this. Oh, and YES, that IS dirt on Donna's face.

JUST ANOTHER SNAPSHOT FROM OUR HIKE DOWN MT BONEY

The scenery really was amazing today. Turns out we hiked up a little more than 1,600 vertical feet - which would be like walking to the top of the Sears Tower, and then a couple hundred more feet. No wonder my legs hurt so bad.

IT TASTES BETTER THAN IT LOOKS: ESPECIALLY AFTER FOUR HOURS OF HIKING

We didn't have much further to go but we were running of fumes and our legs had grown quite weary. Donna dug into her goodies bag and broke out an oatmeal-raisin PowerBar. They don't look so appealing and for some reason, no matter what the flavor, they all look the same. Mmmmm!

DONNA'S LEAST FAVORITE KIND OF TRAIL - STEEP AND LOOSE

We opted against riding today and instead ventured out on a hike to the top of Mt Boney. After two hours of some rather strenuous climbing (uphill hiking) we decided we had done enough, given we had to turn around and get back to the car. We weren't at the 'summit' but we made it to the top of the ridge. Enough was enough. You'd think two hours of uphill would translate to maybe 90 minutes of downhill, but the trail was so loose and steep, that going down it wasn't much faster than going up it. By time it was all said and done, it took us maybe 2:05 to get to the top and 1:55 to get back to the car. Four hours of hiking is enough for me in one day. Ouch!

DONNA GOT A WEE BIT DIRTY ON TODAY'S HIKE UP MT BONEY

This is exactly why Donna wears a platinum wedding band instead of her diamond ring on our outdoor adventures. Years ago she grew tired of never having a wedding ring on while we were out biking, so we got her a simple band to wear that she doesn't need to worry about hurting - which, as you can see, she doesn't.

A SLOW(ISH) SCENIC ROAD RIDE WAS JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR PRESCRIBED

We got out for a nice road ride today - a little over 2 hours of scenic pedaling with my better half. This was our second (and last) stop of the ride in Westlake Village.

IN THE ABSENCE OF APPLES OR CARROTS, THIS GUY SEEMED QUITE CONTENT WITH OUR SALTY SKIN.

I was really wishing we had brought some treats for this guy. Carrots, apples... something! I did at least bring my salty skin.

SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND

I don't think we'll be galloping across grassy pastures or climbing the Santa Monica Mountains with these little guys but boy are they cute. Yes, that's right, I said 'cute.' We've passed them countless times on our road rides but never stopped to say hi until today. They loved me but didn't seem to care too much for Donna - mainly because they thought I was nice and salty (they kept licking my legs), plus, I had Cytomax with me, the sports drink that no miniature horse can live without.

I busted a spoke on tonight's ride and to be completely honest, I'm happy about it. Hopefully it will take two or three days to get fixed - I need an excuse to be lazy (or at least just do some mellow road and 'cross rides.)

I managed to squeeze in 60 minutes of pure mtn biking enjoyment between today's work in the office and tonight's work from home - prep football has a way of buggering up my Friday nights.

The sun was incredibly low in the sky before I even got started on tonight's ride. It did however make for a nice shadow.

I really needed to melt off some stress tonight and a ride up the mountain after worked was just what the doctor ordered.

A NEW APP, FOR A NEW LOOK

I found a new photo app for the iPhone today - imagine that. I couldn't help but try it out during tonight's ride. As you can see there wasn't much of a sunset tonight, even if I had made it there early enough.

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN, WHEN THE LIGHTS COME OUT

The sun is dipping below the horizon earlier and earlier and tonight was that first night of the year when I can't squeeze in a post-work ride without the illumination of my headlight. Bummer, to say the least. Just a few more weeks and I'll have to write off the possibility of catching the sunset from the top of the mountain.
